Lecture Series on “How to Successfully Publish Qualitative Papers in a Journal” was Held

At 9 am on May 29 in 2019, host by the Student Work Department of Central South University and the Xiangya School of Nursing of Central South University and organized by the Nursing Branch of the Association of Young Scientists and Technicians of Central South University and the Graduate Association of Xiangya School of Nursing, a lecture series on "How to Successfully Publish Qualitative Papers in a Journal was successfully held in the meeting room 714 in Xiaoqian Building at Xiangya New Campus.


Dr. Cheng Eileen started the lecture by comparing the differences between qualitative research and quantitative research, stressing that the advantage of qualitative research lies in its capacity to help researchers conduct a much deeper interpretation of whats behind the phenomenon. According to Dr. Huilin Cheng, by identifying what the researcher is actually investigating, whether it is the research objects themselves or the experience, process, behavior, and meaning of the objects, qualitative research helps researchers pick out appropriate research methods.

Later, Dr. Huilin Cheng elaborated on what attracted the audience most when it comes qualitative research, including the submission and publication of qualitative research papers, the precautions during the writing of the papers, and common reasons for paper rejection. Besides highlighting the preparations before paper submission, Dr. Huilin Cheng also recommended several journals with a detailed introduction of the characteristics of each one of them and a comparison of the similarities and differences between those journals. As a peer review expert for multiple journals, Dr. Cheng demonstrated the dos and donts in the writing of papers which could help avoid journal rejection.

At the end of the lecture, Dr. Huilin Cheng encouraged the teachers and students present to fearless, wishing them huge success in carrying out researches, submitting manuscripts and making great achievements in their own research fields. The lecture was rounded off with rapturous applause.
