On the morning of 29 September 2018, Professor Maritta Valimaki, Deputy Director of the School of Nursing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chair of the Research Committee, Visiting Professor of the George School of Health and Social Care, University of London, UK, and honorary Lecturer of the University of Tampere, Finland, paid a visit to Xiangya Nursing School of Central South University.
At 10:30 am, Professor Maritta Valimaki brought a lecture entitled "How to Write a Research Proposal" to doctoral and master students of Xiangya Medical School in the International Lecture Hall on the fourth floor of Fuqing Building. First of all, Professor Maritta Valimaki expressed her great honor to have the opportunity to exchange and give lectures in Xiangya Nursing School and gave full affirmation and encouragement to students to choose nursing major. Professor Maritta Valimaki then gave a thorough and detailed lecture on how to do high-quality nursing research. She said that good nursing research should be innovative, high quality and influential, and should be as narrow as possible to one center. Professor Maritta Valimaki's professional, detailed and flexible presentation gave students a deeper understanding of how to do quality nursing research. There was a strong academic atmosphere on the scene. Students eagerly asked questions, and Professor Maritta Valimaki answered them carefully. At the end of the lecture, Vice President Li Xianhong thanked Professor Maritta Valimaki, and hoped that the students could learn and comprehend the teaching content, gain something, and actively apply it to nursing research practice.
At 14:30, Professor Maritta Valimaki was invited to attend a symposium on how to build a new international model school held by Xiangya Nursing School of Central South University. The symposium was held in conference room 637 of nursing school, chaired by Vice Dean Li Xianhong. Party committee secretary Li Tao gave the welcome speech, expressed warm welcome to Maritta Valimak. Professor Li Tao said Xiangya's achievements in the development of nursing school construction and the construction of "double first-class" cannot do without the leadership of the party, school, and partial to the joint efforts of the teachers and students, but also inseparable from the concern of international friends. Finally, on behalf of the school, Secretary Li Tao expressed his willingness to further cooperate with Professor Maritta and the Nursing School of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
Deputy Dean Wang Honghong introduced the development and general situation of Xiangya Nursing School and the goal and important measures of creating "double first-class" nursing discipline. At the same time, she highlighted five strategies for the proposed international demonstration university, including: building first-class faculty and staff, focusing on cultivating top talents, improving research level as a whole, inheriting and innovating excellent culture, and pushing forward the progress of achievements. At the same time, it also elaborates on the introduction of top talents and deans at home and abroad, the establishment of Sino-foreign cooperation management committee, and the provision of quality resources and platforms, etc., demonstrating the good foundation and full preparation for the construction of our school as an international demonstration school.
Professor Maritta Valimaki expressed his willingness to make a contribution to this honorable project and cause and hoped that both sides will have more opportunities for cooperation and exchange in the future.
