Research area #1: Psychosocial Nursing Theory and Techniques
Based on the bio-psycho-social medical model, the integrated medical model, and psychosocial theories, the team implemented researches among patients with chronic health conditions, cancers, their caregivers, and vulnerable populations (e.g. men who have sex with men and young sexual minorities). We emphasized that a patient/client should be regarded as an integrated person rather than merely his/her physical disease/behavior.
Our research about psychosocial nursing contains (1) Knowing patients, including two aspects, how to know patients/caregivers, and how to know nurses/professionals. (2) Influencing patients, including multiple communication approaches such as motivation interviewing and nurse-patient communication skills. (3) Developing good nurse-patient relationships, including trust and conflict coping.
Research area #2: Rehabilitation Nursing Theory and Techniques
Based on around 15 years’ work, we have developed a multidisciplinary team, the members come from nursing, respiratory, rehabilitation, management, psychology, sociology, and information technology. The team’s work on construction of service model for patients with chronic conditions (especially chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and rehabilitation nursing professional training. The programs had been proved in improving patient’s health outcomes and have good cost-effectiveness.
Our works including (1) Development of hospital outreach intervention (HOI) for patients with chronic disease, to realize the seamless healthcare service in the hospital-community-home link. (2) Training of rehabilitation nursing professionals for the county hospitals, in order to improving rehabilitation service for patients around rural areas. (3) Tele-rehabilitation nursing, including evaluation, individualized exercise rehabilitation prescription, and supervising by using a mobile phone application and a management system. (4) Leading the launch of Hunan pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) training center, in order to train professionals for hospitals and communities, disseminate PR notions and techniques.
Research area #3: Nursing Safety & Healthcare Management Theory and Techniques
With cooperation working of a multidisciplinary team, we combine the big data mining technology with clinical nursing, management, and psychology. The team’s working on development of early risk warning models for nursing safety and healthcare management, to design and implement early and precise interventions.
Our works including nursing interruptions theory and management, medication literacy and medication taking optimization for polypharmacy patients, machine learning assisted treatment adherence prediction and management for patients after organ transplantation, and big data assisted female reproductive health management (e.g. prediction and warning of depression and early intervention after abortion, fetal malformation induction of labor, and around perinatal period).
