At 12:00 noon on May 14 in 2019, the lecture series of "Selecting Good Research Paper Topics for Nursing" was successfully held in Classroom 457 in Xiaoqian Building at Xiangya New Campus. It was the 23th academic lecture host by the Student Work Department of Central South University and the Xiangya School of Nursing of Central South University and organized by the Nursing Branch of the Association of Young Scientists and Technicians of Central South University and the Graduate Association of Xiangya School of Nursing.

Chaired by Professor Zhong Zhuqing, Deputy Director of the Nursing Department of the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, the lecturer was given by Professor Xie Jianfei, deputy director of the Nursing Department of the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. Majoring in mental psychology at Yale University with her research direction focused on nursing management and psychological rehabilitation, she has been selected as Youth Talents of Hunan Province and Medical Talents of Xiangya Hospital. She has been the principal of many international and national projects, such as 1 National Natural Science Foundation project of China, 1 American Yali Association project, 2 Natural Science Foundation projects of Hunan Province, ect. As the first author or corresponding author, she has published over 40 professional papers (including 13 SCI papers), and applied for 18 patents. She has won 8 awards, including the Scientific and Technological Achievement Award of Chinese Nursing Association and accumulated rich experience in clinical research.

At the beginning of the lecture, by sharing The Interwoven Vine, a micro-film shot by her team, Professor Xie Jianfei exemplified the fact that selecting a good topic for research papers requires favorable conditions. Afterwards, she emphasized the principles and directions for topic selecting, pointing out that honesty is the bottom line of scientific research and that the topics selected should be timely, scientific, creative and feasible. Later, she shed light on the approach to track cutting-edge issues and hot topics, urging students to learn from senior researchers and their peers, read more high-quality periodical literature and pay attention to interdisciplinarity with an open mind and broadened horizons, which could pave the way for their topic selection and the following work.

Finally, recounting her experiences in topic selection of scientific research and publication of papers, Professor Xie Jianfei inspired her audience to conduct researches in areas familiar to them and take a step further and go deeper in their research. She hoped that by conducting clinical research with perseverance and preciseness, the students could make their contributions to clinical practice and the well-being of patients. Professor Xie Jianfei left a deep impression on her audience with her unique insights into clinical research, a clear logic and in-depth analysis of impressive cases. The lecture was rounded off with thunderous applause.
