At 14:30 pm on June 10, 2019, host by the Student Work Department of Central South University and the Xiangya School of Nursing of Central South University and organized by the Nursing Branch of the Association of Young Scientists and Technicians of Central South University and the Graduate Association of Xiangya School of Nursing, a lecture series on “Topic Selection and Writing of Research Papers, Selection of English Periodicals, and the Submission Process and Techniques” were successfully held in Class 641 of Xiaoqian Building at Xiangya New Campus.
The lecture was given by Dr.Monica Parry, an Associate Professor and the Director of the Nurse Practitioner Programs at the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at University of Toronto who continues to practice as an NP in cardiac surgery at Kingston General Hospital. Monica is interested in the cardiovascular complications of diabetes. She is an investigator at the Banting & Best Diabetes Centre and is core faculty and an investigator in the Collaborative Program in Resuscitation Science in the Division of Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Monica introduced to her students how to submit their research papers for possible publication, including the preparation of manuscripts for submission and the selection of target journals. She focused on how to distinguish between peer-reviewed scientific journals and fake journals, sharing multiple online resources about paper writing in English and submission guidelines. Subsequently, Professor Monica proposed patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) whose principle lies in ensuring correct intervention for each patient at the right time. According to Professor Monica, based on interdisciplinary cooperation with patients as the cooperators, PCOR focuses on the priority health issues in patients’ health reports, demonstrating the principles of tolerance, support, respect and co-construction. Using as an example a research project on diabetes management currently under way in Canada, Professor Monica briefly introduced how to conduct PCOR. In addition, selecting one of the research papers from the project, she made a review of the submission process.
At the end of the lecture, Professor Monica opened the floor, giving detailed answers to the questions encountered by students during their submission process. The lecture was rounded off with warm applause.
