Professor Wang Ruixia, currently a professor at College of Nursing Kaohsiung Medical University and Professor (joint appointment) of Master Degree Program in Aging and Long-Term Care who also served as Supervisor of Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung Medical University. Her fields of expertise are on Diabetes care ( type 1 and type 2), scale development, structural equation modeling and intervention studies.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Wang gave her audience an introduction of her research, delineating association of interactions between patient empowerment (PE) and health literacy with 1-year-later self-management behaviors in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). She employed a prospective design in her study, where 395 patients with T2DM completed self-reported questionnaires at baseline and 1 year later and a hierarchical multiple regression was used to identify the association of interactions between PE and health literacy at baseline with the 1-year-later self-management behaviors. Subsequently, Professor Wang expounded her further studies in this respect, where she recruited 382 adult patients with type 2 diabetes to identify association of interactions between their individual characteristics, social support, diabetes distress and self-care behaviors and quality of life (QoL) and HbA1C. By showing her audience the research results, she took a step further in discussing the underlying social causes and some puzzles she encountered during her research.
In conducting her research, Professor Wang took into consideration of the urgent needs of patients and the key to the disease treatment, showcasing ingenious scientific research design. This wonderful lecture by Professor Wang, vivid and profound, rational and touching was well received by the students present.
