On November 7, 2020, the first “Epidemic Cup” health science innovation competition, sponsored by Hunan Nursing Association and undertaken by Xiangya School of Nursing, Central South University, was successfully held in Changsha. The theme of the competition is “Learn health knowledge, enjoy a healthy life, and help a healthy China in the post-epidemic era”. Innovative publicity means, carriers and contents are aimed at popularizing basic knowledge of epidemic prevention and control, improving the public's ability of epidemic prevention and control, and facilitating regular epidemic prevention and control.

At 13:30 in the afternoon, the competition officially kicked off. 33 teams from 30 municipal and county-level units from all over the province participated in the competition, and displayed the theme of COVID-19 prevention and control, AIDS, tuberculosis and other infectious diseases as well as healthy lifestyle and living habits in a limited time. After fierce competition, a total of 3 first prizes, 8 second prizes, 12 third prizes, and 10 excellent awards were selected. The team composed of Fan Lu, Li Qi and Zhang Lihui, postgraduate students of Xiangya School of Nursing, Central South University, won the first prize of the competition. The winning work was "Unveiling the Secrets of COVID-19  Nucleic Acid Detection".

The original work adopted the innovative form of “healthy broadcast program” and was displayed on-site with anchor narration + video embedded PPT. The topic selection was in line with the current background of the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic, and the content focused on the 8 most difficult issues that the public was most concerned about with nucleic acid detection. The question-and-answer explanation was carried out one by one in easy-to-understand language and vivid images, and practical videos were recorded to demonstrate the detection. The content was scientific, accurate, concise and interesting.

Through this competition, the nursing colleagues of various hospitals and medical schools not only learned the theoretical knowledge of the latest developments in infectious disease care, but also played their own professional advantages in the popular science competition, showing the unique style of the nursing staff, and presented a health popular science feast for everyone.
