The NIH Fogarty Funded Project -- China AIDS Related Research Ethics Seminar was Successfully Launched

On the morning of June 13, the opening ceremony of China AIDS Related Research Ethics Seminar was held in Jasmine International Hotel, Changsha. More than 30 public health personnel and nursing staff from all over the country engaged in AIDS-related scientific research, prevention and treatment participated in the seminar. The opening ceremony was hosted by deputy dean Professor Wang Honghong of Xiangya Nursing School.



Guests at the opening ceremony included Dr. KavehKhoshnood, associate director of the AIDS Interdisciplinary Research Center at the Yale School of Public Health. Other guests included Sandra L. Alfano, director of the Ethics Review Committee for Clinical Research at Yale University, Professor Tian Yongquan, director of Medical Ethics Center at Central South University, Professor Xiao Shuiyuan, dean of Public Health School at Central South University, Professor Tang Siyuan, dean of Xiangya Nursing School and all trainees.


Dean Tang Siyuan of Xiangya Nursing School gave a warm welcome speech to the American experts coming from afar. He also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. KavehKhoshnood for cooperating with our school in carrying out China AIDS Related Research Ethics Seminar. He hoped that the cooperation between Xiangya Nursing School and Yale University would continue and wished the seminar a complete success.


Dr. KavehKhoshnood, associate director of the AIDS Interdisciplinary Research Center at Yale School of Public Health, on behalf of the American experts, thanked our dean Tang Siyuan for the warm welcome, and simply introduced the content and purpose of the seminar. He hoped this seminar can provide opportunities for learning and communication for domestic AIDS researchers and ethics review staff, and also hoped this seminar can provide certain help to the nursing and public health research ethics review committee. At the same time, he also thanked our school for the support to its related projects and looked forward to more and better cooperation opportunities in the future.


The seminar lasted five days. There will be five experts from the US and domestic experts to lecture on the ethics of AIDS related scientific research. Through discussion and one-to-one guidance, the students will improve their awareness and ability of scientific research ethics, as well as their ability to write ethics-related academic papers, so as to train a group of researchers in the field of AIDS ethical research in China.
