Tom A. Lang, A Senior Editor and Writer from the US, Gave A lecture at Our School

On June 9, 2017, at 14:00, the leading academic lecture "Publishing Behavioral Research in Nursing and Public Health" was successfully held in the front building T105. The lecture was hosted by deputy dean Professor Wang Honghong of Xiangya Nursing School. Tom A. Lang, a senior editor and writer from the US and former chairman of the Education Committee of the World Association of Medical Editors, was invited as special guests. Associate Professor Zhou Jing from Foreign Languages School, all graduate students and international students attended the lecture. Deputy dean Wang Honghong briefly introduced the guest speaker and extended a warm welcome to him. Mr. Tom A. Lang's presentation was on Publishing Behavioral Research in Nursing and Public Health.



First of all, Mr. Tom gave some suggestions to students, such as finding their own research direction, preparation before writing papers and submitting papers, etc. Later, he introduced the basic components of papers and the characteristics and importance of each part in a vivid and interesting way. Mr. Tom emphasized how to write English papers in a standard way, what each part should be explained and how to revise the paper. As for how to make the language part of the article more fluent and the meaning more accurate, Mr. Tom used specific examples to explain in detail, so as to make it easier for teachers and students present to understand. Finally, Professor Tom gave a brief introduction to what predatory open journals are and their characteristics. He also listed some websites to remind graduate students to keep their eyes open.


Mr. Tom's wonderful lecture aroused great resonance and thought. In the Q&A session after the lecture, graduate students and international students asked questions and expressed their opinions, and further communicated with experts.
