On September 13, 2017, Basia Lynn Belza, professor from the School of Nursing, Washington University, accompanied by Dr. Liu Minhui, a postdoctoral fellow from Hopkins University, paid a visit to Our school. Professor Tang Siyuan, dean of our nursing school, deputy dean Associate Professor Li Xianhong, Associate Professor Guo Jia, deputy director of Foreign Affairs Office, Professor Zeng Hui, director of nursing training center, and Associate Professor Yang Min, director of basic nursing department were all present. They had an in-depth discussion with Professor Belza and Dr. Liu Minhui on the construction of nursing discipline, scientific research direction and institutional setting of the two schools.

On behalf of the nursing school, Prof. Tang Siyuan, the dean of the school, welcomed Prof. Basia Lynn Belza to our school for the first time. Associate Professor Guo Jia introduced the history of Xiangya Nursing School, its current structure, main research directions, academic rankings and current international exchanges and cooperation. Professor Basia Lynn Belza gave high recognition to the history and strong development momentum of our school's nursing discipline, especially the substantive cooperation with top nursing schools in many parts of the world. She then explained in detail the setting up of the University of Washington School of Nursing and the main areas of research. The two sides held heated discussions on possible areas for future cooperation, and many sparks were fired. These areas include student exchanges, teacher exchanges, and research directions in the care of the elderly. Dean Tang hoped that Dr. Liu Minhui could play an important role in building the substantive cooperation between the two universities and open up a new field of cooperation and exchange with world-class universities.

In the afternoon, professor Basia Lynn Belza, with the support of "Forum of Famous Teachers and Experts held by Central South University", gave the first academic lecture of this semester in Room 457 of Xiangya Nursing School -- application of evidence-based "Department Store Walk" project in the elderly. The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Guo Jia. Basia Lynn Belza, professor at The University of California, Berkeley, began with the question, "In what ways can diseases be prevented or treated?". She argued that with the development of technology, human beings in the 21st century are facing a major problem - lack of exercise. To help disabled or chronically ill seniors engage in rehabilitation activities within a safe range, her team developed and implemented the Mall Walking Program for seniors, which it hopes will inspire people to make time for activities. The lecture of Professor Belza was lively and interesting, affectionately, gave participants a lot of inspiration. Therefore, this lecture not only attracted the active participation of graduate students, but also inspired the academic exchange between Professor Feng Hui, Associate Professor Gu Can and Associate Professor Sun Mei of nursing school and Professor Belza. Everyone was enthusiastic.

Dr. Minhui Liu, a postdoctoral fellow at the Hopkins School of Nursing, followed Professor Belza's lecture with a detailed explanation of issues of great concern to graduate students. These included how to apply for an American nursing doctorate. He told us from his own experience that the nursing education model and the basic requirements for learning in American universities; He also told us what to pay attention to in the application process and recommended some excellent American nursing schools to students. After the speech, many students actively asked questions and communicated with the two teachers. The first forum of Famous Teachers in Central South University hosted by Xiangya Nursing School was a complete success.

The School of Nursing at The University of Washington has carried out some exchanges and cooperation with our school. Dr. Amami, the dean of the school, showed his willingness to carry out substantive cooperation with our school when he visited us in March. We believe that Professor Belza's visit will promote the substantive cooperation between the two universities.
