Supported by the Foreign Cultural and Educational Expert Program of the National Bureau of Foreign Studies, professor Robin Whittemore of Yale School of Nursing taught the course nursing theory to the 2017 doctoral students of our school during the period of March 12-26, 2018 in room 457, building behind Xiangya Nursing School. Guo Jia, an associate professor at the nursing school, and some postgraduate students attended the course. Professor Whittemore's purpose is to enhance the international level of education in our school, strengthen the theoretical foundation of doctoral students in Xiangya Nursing School, and enable them to learn cutting-edge courses in their major.

This "nursing theory" course has 32 class hours in total. The course uses the original English textbook. All classes are in English. Teaching content includes Methods of concept development, Overview of theory, Scope of theory, Middle range theories, Nursing theorists, Theory analysis and evaluation, Theory development through synthesis methods, Theory development through research, etc. In order to ensure a good teaching effect, Professor Whittlemore will send the learning materials of the course to the students in advance. In the course of teaching, Professor Whittlemore combined theoretical knowledge with her own research experience and elaborated from the shallow to the deep. During the session, the students discussed the course content and Professor Whittlemore explained further. During class breaks, Professor Whittlemore also tutorsstudents' own research topics, and gave advice and suggestions, which were highly praised by students.

In the last class, the present doctoral students made PPT presentations according to their own research topics. Professor Whittemore gave careful guidance to each PhD student's presentation, gave comments and suggestions, and praised students for their questions.

Professor Whittemore made many pertinent suggestions to each PhD student in her report, patiently answered students' questions and doubts in the course of the project, and left her email number so that they could continue their research after returning home.
