The health of women and children is a measure of progress of social civilization. At present, women's and children's health in China still faces many problems. For example, birth defects, nutritional imbalances lead to obesity and chronic diseases, malnutrition among children from poor families, and cervical cancer. Common malignant tumors such as breast cancer are threatening women's health. In view of this, the Hunan Women's and Children's Federation and Central South University jointly established the "Research Center for Women's and Children's Health and Development"; the research center is affiliated to Xiangya School of Nursing, Central South University, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and adhere to the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, with Health China 2030 as its General outline to implement the Hunan Provincial Women's Development Plan (2016-2020) and the Hunan Provincial Children's Development Plan (2016-2020) as a guide to conduct research to promote the health of women and children in Hunan province. It is a provincial research platform of cooperation between academic institutions and industries that combines theory with practice. With expertise of the research team based on the comprehensive advantages of Central South University, including academic professionals in sociology, public health, law, literature and philosophy, such interdisciplinary research contributes greatly to the development of women and children health in Hunan Province.
