The Xiangya-Oceanwide Health Management Research Institute, Central South University (hereinafter referred to as the Institute) was established on February 22, 2017, a joint research project between Central South University and China Oceanwide Holdings Group based on the two parties' complementary advantages with the aim to jointly promote the development of China's health industry. It is a platform for cooperation among governments, industry, universities and research institutes in the fields of health management, elderly care, talent training and academic development.
The Institute will strive to serve the strategic needs of "Healthy China" with a vision to lead. It works to establish standards and regulations in health management and elderly care services in China's context with advanced technologies. We will cultivate professional experts by having an internationally renowned interdisciplinary department to promote innovative scientific research in health industry, as well as the commercialization of the research results. The fundamental research will contribute to a strategic and forward-looking innovation benefiting Chinese people.
There are 6 full-time researchers in the Institute, including 2 former researchers from overseas institutes, 5 laboratory technicians and 2 research assistants.
The Institute has one of the major laboratories in Hunan Province, one basic research laboratory for community-based chronic disease management and elderly care, one laboratory for health-related big data research, and one laboratory for Cohort Research. In March 2018, a biospecimen lab was launched to carry out health-related big data research and Cohort Research.
The Institute cooperates with the government, hospitals, communities and social care institutions in various fields. For example, the Institute cooperates with the Health Commission of Hunan Province to establish the Hunan Research Center for Elderly Health; and with the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Disorders to establish a Research Center (Xiangya) for Integrated Assessment and Management of the Elderly Care; and with the Node / GeeDee to build a health management innovation incubation base. The Institute also developed high-quality courses on "Health Industry + Innovation and Entrepreneurship".
