I. Overview of the College
Founded in 1911, Xiangya Nursing School of Central South University was set by Yale-China Association. It is one of the earliest institutions of nursing education in China.
Mature degree structure: In 2004, doctors in community health nursing are enrolled in the clinical medicine department, which is one of the first two doctoral degree programs in nursing in China. In 2012, it was enlisted as Chinese first batch of postdoctoral research station in nursing.
Top Discipline structure: Domestic ranking: in the 2012 National Overall level assessment of first-class disciplines conducted by the Ministry of Education, nursing of Central South University ranked 4 (10%-11%); in the 2016 National Overall level assessment of first-class disciplines conducted by the Ministry of Education, nursing of Central South University ranked A+ (top 5%). International ranking: in three consecutive years, 2017, 2018 and 2019, nursing of Central South University was listed in the world top 100 according to the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. And it was the only nursing discipline representing China in the top 100 in 2017.
High quality teachers: With strong faculty and reasonable structure, the college has integrated the faculty of four First-class affiliated hospitals teaching, scientific research and clinical practice resources, so as to form high quality teaching system of Xiangya Nursing School of Central South University- “Big Xiangya” and “Big Nursing”. The school has 68 full-time teachers, among which are 27 professors (including chief nurse), 30 associate professors (including associate nurse), 10 post-doctoral and doctoral supervisors. Among the young teachers, there are 9 having finished their post-doctoral research and 34 doctors. Among the faculty, there are 2 experts who enjoy the special allowance from the State Council; one member of the Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and one with the honorary title of “Inspiring Global Nurse Award” (the only one in China).
Abundant teaching resources: The college consists of five specialized departments, namely Basic Nursing Department, Humanistic Nursing Department, Clinical Nursing Department, Community Nursing Department and Midwifery Department, one nursing training center and three clinical nursing skills centers (located in three affiliated hospitals). The nursing training center now covers an area of 1700 m2, including basic nursing training room, clinical nursing training room, community nursing training room, pediatric nursing training room, obstetrics and gynecology nursing training room, emergency nursing training room, etc., with an investment of over 15.9 million yuan. The clinical nursing skill center covers an area of 9,230 m2 with an investment of nearly 70 million yuan.
Extensive scientific research: The College has Health Care Research Center of Central South University, Chronic disease Basic Research and Basic Management Research Center, Psychology of Nursing Research Center and Health Improvement Research Center for vulnerable groups. Since 2016, the college has had more than 150 scientific research projects, among which, there are 12 national projects, 14 international cooperation projects, with a total amount of fund reaching over 10 million yuan. Professors and students have published more than 1500 papers, among which 200 papers have been included in SCI/SSCI/EI. More than 350 national utility model patents have been granted, including one domestic invention patent. Editor-in-chief of 9 textbooks for national planning; 3 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards (100% contribution) and participation in the formulation of one international standard, three domestic guidelines and expert consensus.
Extensive cooperation: College has cooperated with the Yale university, University of California, San Francisco, Washington University, University of Dundee and University of Toronto, Monash University, Flinders University, Kyushu University, Chiang Mai University, the Chinese university of Hong Kong for coalition training, scientific research cooperation and academic exchanges.
II. Conditions of application
Applicants who have graduated from the doctoral program within three years (the second station not limited), have excellent academic performance, are in good health, and are under the age of 35 and meet the admission requirements of the school and college can apply for admission to the doctoral program. For excellent applicants, the age limit may be lowered to below 38.

IV. Career development and other support
The “Sheng Hua Postdoctoral Award” is set up in the school by the university (once a year), and the applicant’s application for staying on campus is not limited by the proportion of the source of the university. Those who have been selected into “Post-doctoral innovative Talent Support Program”, “Post-doctoral International exchange and Introduction Program” or the postdoctoral talents project with the same level of competition and outstanding research results will be awarded the title of “Sheng Hua Post-doctoral” directly after leaving the station, and will not be restricted by the admission index of the college when applying for stay.
