Professor Li Li and Professor Deborah Koniak-Griffin from UCLA Gave Lectures at Our School

At 14:30 on November 17, 2015, the second lecture of "They Share" Academic Salon organized by the Postgraduate Association of Xiangya Nursing School of Central South University was successfully held in T309, the front building of the teaching building. Professor Deborah Koniak-Griffin introduced the Research Project on HIV Prevention of Young Parents, and Professor Li Li introduced the Different Methods and Models of Behavioral Intervention Research Design and Implementation. The seminar was hosted by Associate Professor Li Xianhong. Deputy dean Wang Honghong, all the graduate students of our nursing school and many teachers and students of foreign aid advanced degree education program attended the event.




At the beginning of the lecture, deputy deans Wang Honghong and Li Xianhong warmly welcomed the two professors. First of all, Professor Deborah gave us a wonderful speech. Professor Deborah explained the current research background in the US, the main way to transmit AIDS, the infected population and risk factors through her research experience of "Young Parents' AIDS Prevention" project. Professor Deborah explained the research process in details, including the type of research design, sample size, sampling method, detailed intervention process and the final research results. Professor Deborah focused on the intervention process, and gave a detailed explanation of the course design, the selection of participants, and the course content, so that everyone had a deeper understanding of behavioral intervention. Finally, Professor Deborah also introduced some ways to acquire knowledge about evidence-based medicine.


Then, Professor Li Li explained her project experience of behavioral intervention research in Thailand, China and Vietnam in the past ten years, and shared some interesting stories and know-how during her research. Professor Li Li explained the different methods and models of behavioral intervention research design and implementation in a simple way, so that everyone could understand the advantages and disadvantages of different behavioral intervention research models such as "copy", "mix", "local". At the end of the lecture, Li Li gave us some suggestions. She said, "there is no one model that can be applied to all situations". She also said that "innovation is the key” and encouraged us to play our innovation ability bravely in future research.


In the lecture, everyone actively discussed and asked questions. The two professors answered the students' questions in simple words. This lecture has brought us the latest frontier knowledge of the subject, let us have some basic understanding of behavioral intervention research, and aroused everyone's interest in behavioral intervention learning. Such lectures have benefited us a lot, let us learn a lot of knowledge not found in books and appreciate the demeanor of famous teachers, broadened the vision of teachers and students, and inspired our future research and learning.



After the academic lecture, secretary Luo Junfei, on behalf of the administrative leadership of the school, welcomed the arrival of foreign guests, and introduced the situation of our school as well as the advantages and characteristics of the development of our nursing courses. Our dean Tang Siyuan, who just came back from a business trip to Sichuan University, had dinner with foreign guests, held in-depth talks on future cooperation and exchanges between schools, and put forward preliminary ideas on scientific research cooperation and academic exchanges.
