Professor Lisa Lommel and Professor Jyu-Lin Chen from University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Gave Academic Lectures at Our School

On the morning of June 27, 2016, the Forum of Famous Teachers and Experts of Central South University hosted by Xiangya Nursing School was successfully held in building 457 behind the teaching building. Dr. Lisa Lommel, Clinical Professor of the UCSF Nursing School, and Associate Professor Jyu-Linchen, director of the Doctoral program, were invited to give lectures in the forum. Professor Lommel gave a lecture entitled "Project Study on Self-Rated Health and Related Influencing Factors of Chinese Immigrants Living in the United States", and Associate Professor Jyu-Lin Chen gave a lecture on the Influence of Family and Mothers on Childhood Obesity. The forum was hosted by Associate Professor Guo Jia, and attended by Professor Zhou Leshan, graduate students of our nursing school and foreign graduate students of the foreign aid master program.

At the beginning of the lecture, Associate Professor Guo Jia warmly welcomed the two professors and introduced their academic backgrounds. Later, Lisa Lommel professor showed her self-reported health status of the US immigration study, analyzed the health status of immigration to the US and potential risk factors, and explained the analysis of the secondary data including three stages data analysis methods and the final results, put forward to promote immigration self-reported health related intervention, explored the new perspective of the participants to the data analysis method.

In the second lecture, associate professor Jyu-LinChen, in both Chinese and English, explained survey of the mothers’ attitude to preschool children obesity in Changsha, and shared some of her skills in the process of research and discovery. She thought that the intervention to obesity should start when the children are young, and that mother and family play a crucial role in the intervention. Associate Professor Jyu-Lin Chen is supported by FulBright Project in the US. She has been engaged in scientific research and teaching in our school for three months and has made great contributions to the training and development of postgraduates and scientific research in our school.


After the lecture, the questions and discussions were positive and enthusiastic. Both sides expressed that the forum brought new research ideas to each other. For the teachers and students of our school, they have learned about the new data analysis methods and the further study of secondary data. They have appreciated the elegant demeanor of famous teachers and scholars who have broadened their vision of future scientific research and learning.
