Professor Jyu-Lin Chen and Professor Lisa Lommel from University of California San Francisco were Invited to Give Lectures in Our School

On the evening of July 5, 2017, at 19:00, the lecture on academic frontiers was held in room 457, Xiaoqian Building. The keynote speakers were Professor Jyu-Lin Chen and Professor Lisa Lommel from University of California, San Francisco. The topics were "Professional Doctor of Nursing and Doctor of Science in Nursing Programs in the United States" and "Master of Nursing Program in the United States". The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Guo Jia. All graduate students and some international students from Xiangya Nursing School attended the lecture.

First of all, on behalf of the teachers and students of the nursing school, Associate Professor Guo Jia extended a warm welcome to the two professors. Professor Lisa Lommel used a 2010 Nursing Report from the Institute of Medicine as a prelude to her lecture, explaining the shortcomings of nurses in practice and pointing out that we should cooperate with medical professionals to promote the progress in the medical field. Later, she introduced the UCSF Master of Nursing program in detail, focusing on the main practice areas of Advanced Clinical Registered Nurse (APRN), Practicing Nurse (NP), and Clinical Nursing Specialist (CNS), and distinguished between NP and CNS in terms of specialty, place of practice, and so on.

Professor Jyu-Lin Chen explained how to apply for and study for UCSF's Doctoral Program in Nursing (DNP) and PhD in Science (PhD), and the differences and connections between the two doctorates. Professor Jyu-Lin Chen introduced the credit system, curriculum design, review criteria, application requirements and graduation process of PhD in detail. He also introduces the meaning and necessity of DNP, and differentiates the two in terms of training objectives, career routes, academic specialization and so on. Professor Jyu-Lin Chen explained all these in both languages.


The two professors presented a higher level of academic path for the graduate students of our school, which aroused great interest and thinking of the present graduate students. After the lecture, many graduate students and international students had an in-depth communication with the two professors.


It is reported that in the next few days, Professor Jyu-Lin Chen and Professor Lisa Lommel, accompanied by Associate Professor Guo Jia and Associate Professor Sun Mei, will visit the suburban Yannong community for investigation and research. They also will go to affiliated hospitals and give professional talks to clinical healthcare workers. The two professors were respectively sponsored by overseas Expert Forum of Central South University and Intelligence Introduction Program of Central South University to give lectures and conduct scientific research and academic exchanges in our university. This is part of the substantive cooperation between the two universities.
