The Division of Fundamental Nursing of the School of Nursing, Central South University consists of three faculties members (part-time professors not included), including a full professor, an associate professor and a lecturer, all with a doctorate. They are mainly responsible for the full-time undergraduate and postgraduate education of courses such as Nursing Fundamentals, Nursing Research, and Nursing English.
The faculty has edited or co-edited more than 10 textbooks specified for the higher nursing education at the undergraduate level and at vocational colleges nationwide, as well as the teaching materials specified for higher medical institutes in both Chinese and English, including “Nursing Fundamentals”, “Psychiatric Nursing”, “Nursing Research”, “Designing Nursing Research”, “Nursing Fundamentals (Bilingual Edition)”, “Nursing Fundamentals (New Edition)”, “Mental and Psychological Care”, “Nursing Ethics”, “Nursing English”, etc.
Over the last five years, the faculty has published over 40 articles, either as lead authors or corresponding authors, among which there are 8 articles that have been included by SCI, 15 by CSCD.
The major fields of research among others are Nursing of AIDS Patients and Psychiatric Nursing. For the last five years, the faculty has been in charge of multiple research projects such as “Developing ART adherence intervention in south central China (R34 MH 083564-01A2)”, “Medical students involved in the intervention to reduce discrimination in families with AIDS patients (2008-Ⅲ-3)”, “Antiretroviral therapy for AIDS patients and the results (1U2R TW006918-01)”, “A study on the strategy of preventing and treating AIDS in Changsha (K051098-32)”, “A general evaluation of health outcomes of HIV/ AIDS patients with family visit discrimination intervention (16817602210030)”, “A follow-up study of the effects that emotional expressions of families of mentally ill people have on the burden of caring and recurrence rate”, “Applications of the education mode of ‘infiltration, integration and stepping-up’ in the bilingual education of Nursing Research”, “Health education project on the health self-care capacity of the elderly in the community”, etc. By promoting education with research, a solid foundation has been laid for improving the quality of education.
