Notice on Application for 2017 Chia Family Foundation Health Fellowship Program

The Chia Family Foundation Health Fellowship Program of Yale-China Association is a health program funded by the Chia Family Foundation of the United States and established by the Yale-China Association in our school. It is aimed at improving the health outcomes of the people in Hunan through related health programs and promoting the role of women in health professions.


In the second half of the year, the Chia Fellowship candidates are selected and sent to Yale University for six months of study, conducting relevant research under the guidance of Yale faculty. After returning to China from Yale, Chia Fellows, with the support of the Fellow’s institution and Xiangya School of Medicine, will carry out on-site research on the proposed project. Applicants shall submit individual project involving the prevention and management of infectious or chronic diseases, or the health problems faced by vulnerable groups in Hunan. This program has been jointly funded by the Chia Family Foundation and Central South University (and its affiliated hospitals) since 2011. According to the notice from the Yale-China Association, our school will select 2017 Chia Fellowship candidates from three affiliated hospitals, XiangYa School of Public Health and Xiang Ya Nursing School. The selected candidates will go to the United States to study in the second semester of 2017 (please see Appendix 1 for details). All institutions are required to organize the application carefully. Applicants shall be selected, recommended, and approved by their institutions before applying for the program. Specific requirements are as follows:


1. There is no limitation in the number of places for the application for Chia Fellowship Program in 2017, and each institution is responsible for the preliminary qualification review;

2.The Chia Fellowship candidates shall provide certificate of funding from their institutions. The funding certificate should include the time range of funding (July 1, 2017-December 31, 2017). The funding covers international round-trip air tickets, medical insurance, accommodation and living expenses during the study period in the United States (6 months), and project implementation expenses after returning to China ($6,000). Please see Appendix 1 for other details.

3. All institutions are requested to submit the personal application form (Appendix 2) and the institution’s registration form of Chia Fellowship Program (see Appendix 3) in paper version to the Comprehensive Office of Xiangya School of Medicine before October 17, and send the electronic version to xingliu0706@csu.edu.cn and yale-china@yale.edu.


The Yale-China Association will interview candidates in late October, and the specific arrangements will be announced later.
